The main character of the story is Winston Goose (Peter Dinklage). He is a helpless, sick cleaner who lives with his stepson, Wade (Jacob Tremblay). Winston works for a huge, corrupt corporation called ‘BTH’. The head of this corporation is the cruel and power-hungry Bob Garbinger (Kevin Bacon). The toxic waste that ‘BTH’ releases into the environment is making the local people sick, and Winston’s wife has also died of cancer.
One day, Winston discovers that he has a serious brain disease and that his insurance does not cover the expensive treatment it requires. Deeply troubled, he decides to steal money to give his son a better life. However, the attempt fails, and he suddenly falls into a tank full of toxic waste.
Winston does not die in this fatal accident. Instead, he is transformed into the “Toxic Avenger”, or “Toxic”, a deformed but supernatural being with mysterious superpowers. Although his body is deformed, his heart still beats for his son and the underprivileged of society. Using his new powers, he begins to fight against criminals and the corrupt ‘BTH’ corporation. His main weapon is the mop he often uses.
As “Toxic” becomes a hero in the town, his true identity is revealed to his son, Wade. At the same time, Bob Garbinger, the head of the ‘BTH’ corporation, also becomes aware of this new threat. He kidnaps Wade with the cunning intention of possessing “Toxie”‘s power.
In the climax of the film, “Toxie” engages in a fierce battle with Bob Garbinger and his companions to save his son. This battle consists of extremely violent and bloody scenes, which perfectly reflect the black-comedy nature of the film. In the end, “Toxie” defeats the villains and saves his son, and it is revealed that the disease in his mutated body has also been cured. He begins a new life with his son as a hero, respected by the people of the town.
“The Toxic Avenger” goes beyond a simple superhero story and satirically touches on deep themes such as environmental destruction, corporate greed, and the rise of society’s underdogs. It is a powerful social critique through violence and absurd humor.
