The quiet night was shattered by the terrifying sound of a small child. “Dad!” he shouted. The father quickly ran to the child.
“What’s wrong, son? What happened?” the father asked, looking at his son.
The little boy was sitting on the bed, trembling with fear. “There… there was someone there,” he said, pointing.
The father looked around the room. “There’s no one there, son. You must have been dreaming.”
“No, dad, it’s a ghost! I saw it!” the child screamed even more in fear. “Don’t go, stay with me!”
The father sat next to the child and stroked his head. “Okay, son. I’ll wait a minute.”
“Tell me about the ghost you saw, son,” the father asked softly.
The child was still trembling with fear. “It’s black… scary… its skin is burnt… it’s smoking… I’m scared, Dad.”
The father’s face was pained. “You still have those dreams, right?”
“This isn’t a dream!” the child cried.
“I understand… I believe,” the father said. But there was something different in his voice.
“But son, you can’t always be afraid and call your father. You’re a big boy now. You need to let go of that fear.”
The child remained silent. “Not everyone gets to move on in life,” he said softly.
