On a dark night, a young woman named Ellen calls out to something within her soul. She doesn’t know what she’s calling out to. But something responds to her voice – something awakened from eternal darkness.
Thomas Hutter, a young real estate agent, is sent on a long journey by his employer, Herr Nock. He must visit Count Orlok, who lives in an old castle in the Carpathian Mountains. Ellen, Thomas’s new wife, is terrified of the journey. Her dreams warn her.
At the castle, Thomas discovers that Count Orlok is actually a terrifying demon – Nosferatu, a vampire demon. Orlok prepares to arrive in the city of Vizburg, where he will seek out Ellen, because of a pact she made with him some time ago.
The city of Vizburg is suffering from a plague. Nosferatu has arrived. Ellen realizes that only she can stop the plague. She must voluntarily surrender to the demon – to quench his thirst for blood, and destroy him when the rooster crows in the morning.
In the end, Ellen sacrifices her life. Her sacrifice destroys Nosferatu. But her sacrifice costs her the love of Thomas. This is a story of love, sacrifice, and the eternal struggle between darkness and light.
