MySQL connection not working: 2002 No such file or directory

I am getting back into development after a few years and am having trouble setting up my MySQL server with XAMPP. I cannot even get my MySQL server to run. It never starts. I’ve tried changing the config files to have matching passwords and usernames. I am including the config files for both XAMPP and the MySQL server. I’ve watched many videos and stackoverflow posts but nothing is solving correctly. Please let me know what I am doing wrong. Thank you. If possible to terminal solutions I’m not well versed in using terminal.

I’ve tried to add the grant tables line as well as delete and install XAMPP.

Below is the code from my MySQL config file:

# This is for a system with little memory (32M - 64M) where MySQL plays
# an important part, or systems up to 128M where MySQL is used together with
# other programs (such as a web server)

# You can copy this file to
# /etc/my.cnf to set global options,
# mysql-data-dir/my.cnf to set server-specific options (in this
# installation this directory is /Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/var/mysql) or
# ~/.my.cnf to set user-specific options.

# In this file, you can use all long options that a program supports.
