Is there a way to make Android Emulator use non-bundled qemu?

$ emulator -avd hd2
INFO    | Android emulator version 35.2.10.0 (build_id 12414864) (CL:N/A)

PANIC: CPU Architecture 'arm' is not supported by the QEMU2 emulator, (the classic engine is deprecated!)

I have qemu-system-arm installed and should be able to launch the avd with that, but the AVD Manager always uses the bundled qemu binaries in $ANDROID_HOME/emulator/qemu/linux-x86_64/qemu-system-*

Is there a way I can use my existing qemu installation to launch avds with the android emulator?
