Newlyweds Norman and Belinda are expecting their first child, but their lives are completely changed when Norman’s stepmother, Solange, arrives at their home. The film explores the relationship between mothers and children, as well as the conflict between trust and power.

Norman and Belinda decide to name their child Laurie. But Solange has a major influence on the choice of name. She suggests the name after Norman’s father, Lawrence. Through this, we clearly see the extent to which Solange tries to influence family decisions.

One of the most important themes in the film is Solange’s religious beliefs and her power. She believes that she has received the power of the Holy Spirit. Through this, she tries to control Belinda. She constantly prays, recites quotes from the Bible, and brings her religious group to the house.

Belinda’s mental state gradually begins to deteriorate. She fears for the baby, she suspects Solange. Norman is caught between the two. He wonders if what his wife is saying is true or what the stepmother is saying is true. This situation is further aggravated when Solange is accused of harming the baby.

The film ends with us wondering. Who is really at fault? Solange or Belinda? Is this simply the stress of being a new mother? Or is it something more?

Ultimately, this film shows us how complex family relationships can be. Especially when different cultures, beliefs and generations collide. These social issues are highlighted even more acutely through the film’s undercurrent of fear.

Through Belinda’s character, we see the challenges that new mothers face. While she loses her career and struggles with the stress of giving birth, she also faces the dominance of her stepmother. All of this together puts her under a lot of pressure.

The main message that this film conveys to the audience is the complexity of family relationships. In particular, it explains how power, control, and religious beliefs affect these relationships. It also succeeds in drawing attention to the experiences of new mothers and the challenges they face.
