The Nightmare on the Staten Island Ferry
On a foggy night, the old ferry ‘Ferry Mortimer’ set off from the Staten Island Ferry. It was no ordinary journey. The ferry was old and was scheduled to be scrapped, but it had been temporarily put into service because of Marathon Week. It was his first day on the job for a young worker named Neil, and he was not very happy about having to work on the dark, eerie lower deck of the ferry.
Suddenly, strange noises began to be heard on the ferry. Something seemed to move in the shadows. Neil and an experienced worker, Dom, were trying to salvage a valuable piece of iron from the ferry’s old steam engine room. As they salvaged it, Dom was attacked by a mysterious creature that emerged from the darkness. Neil fled in fear, and Dom fell victim to the creature.
Meanwhile, a party was taking place on the upper deck of the ship. A young woman named Selena, who was escaping from the party, met another ferryman named Pete. Pete helped her, and the two became friends. The ship’s captain, Bill, was worried about the fog and the approaching storm, and tried to reach his destination as quickly as possible.
But the horror did not end there. Amber, a paramedic, saw the severed head of a police officer floating in the sea at the back of the ship. She saw a small, furry, rat-like creature killing the officer. Although she said so, no one believed her.
Soon, the ship’s communications systems were down, and the ship had drifted off course. The captain had also mysteriously died. Another employee, Tommy, took temporary command, and ordered Pete to gather the passengers below deck.
Downstairs, the doors were locked, and the passengers were terrified. The mysterious creature (later identified as ‘Wheelie’ or ‘Steamboat Wheelie’) burst into the lower deck, killing many. The few survivors – Pete, Selena, Amber, Moses, Matthew, and an old employee, Barry – fled to the upper deck.
Barry said that ‘Wheelie’ was an experimenter who had been trapped on the ship many years earlier. The ship’s old captain, Walt, freed Wheelie and befriended him, but then Wheelie disappeared and now he has returned. It turns out that Wheelie is looking for his lost companion.
Eventually, the ship began to sink. Pete fought Wheelie and died to save the others. Only Selena, Amber and Matthew survived, and they were rescued by the coast guard. The experience of that terrible night changed their lives forever.
