Angela Vidal, a television reporter, joins a group of firefighters on a night patrol for the show “While You’re Asleep.” The show aims to show their daily routines, what they eat, and their lifestyle. First, they observe the fire station’s normal nighttime routines and discover that most of the calls are not for fires, but for things like water leaks or pet rescues.
Suddenly, they are called to a building to report an elderly woman. There, they witness the woman brutally assaulting a police officer and a firefighter. The situation spirals out of control, and the authorities seal off the building, preventing anyone from leaving. They learn that this is a “BNC protocol” (biological, nuclear, or chemical threat).
Panic spreads among the people trapped inside the building. No telephones, televisions, or radios work, and they are completely isolated. The injured are in critical condition and require medical attention. At this point, a health inspector inside the building explains that the infection was spread by a dog, which is transmitted through saliva. The dog is named “Max”, and was the pet of a little girl named Jennifer.
As the condition of the infected worsens, the team, including Angela and cameraman Pablo, try to escape the building. They encounter various obstacles and attacks from the infected. They realize that the authorities are not trying to save them. Eventually, they are forced to enter a locked apartment, where they find information about mysterious research on a Portuguese girl. This research shows that the infection has mutated, and it is very dangerous. The scientist who owns the apartment has written a note to “eliminate” the girl and erase all traces of her existence.
With the light gone, they have to use their night vision cameras, and the mysterious creatures follow them. Angela and Pablo eventually reach the roof of the building, where they find the body of the Portuguese girl. The girl’s body comes back to life and frightens them again. Finally, Angela is left in the dark, screaming, but there is no one to save her. The story ends on a hopeless and terrifying note.
