Nonna’s Love and Joey’s Dream
Joey is a young man who loves his grandmother (nonna) and his mother very much. Since childhood, Joey’s life has been tied to the delicious recipes prepared by Nonna and his mother. The aroma of the ceppole, the taste of the lasagna, the secret of the special sauce that Nonna cooks, all of these were deeply engraved in Joey’s mind. “No one grows old at the dinner table” became their family motto.
Suddenly, Joey’s mother passes away. With that sadness, Joey feels very lonely. He remembers his mother and Nonna only with their food. With these memories, Joey decides to start an Italian restaurant called “Enoteca Maria” in memory of his mother. Its specialty is that, like his nonna, other grandmothers gather and prepare food according to their traditional recipes.
Joey is helped by his best friend Bruno in this endeavor, but at first Bruno is a little against the idea. Joey has money problems and has to work hard to build the restaurant. Meanwhile, the nonnas have small fights, arguing about the food in their regions, but everything is resolved in the end. Joey also has to fail his exams.
In the middle of all this, Joey meets an old friend named Olivia. Olivia is a law student, and she helps Joey overcome these problems. Finally, a famous food critic writes a good review of Joey’s restaurant. The review says that “Enoteca Maria” is not just a restaurant, it is a place like a family, a place to share love.
