The story revolves around a young boy named Mithun (also known as Mithya). After the death of his parents, he has to leave his home in Mumbai and live with his aunt (Jyoti) and uncle (Surya) in Udupi. They have two daughters named Anu and Vandana.
Mithya finds it difficult to adjust to the new environment. He misses Mumbai and his friends. The new school, the unfamiliar Kannada language, and village life are a challenge for him. There, he meets a friend named Kishan.
Soon, Mithya’s relatives from Mumbai come to Udupi with the intention of taking him back. They accuse Mithya’s mother of poisoning his father and Surya and Jyoti of keeping him with the intention of owning Mithya’s father’s property. Surya and Jyoti strongly deny these allegations and are determined to keep Mithya with them. These conflicts escalate to court, and Mithya is even threatened with being sent to an orphanage.
Meanwhile, Mithya discovers another secret. He learns that Vandana is Surya and Jyothi’s own daughter, and that she was adopted by Mithya’s parents because they could not raise her. This revelation creates new tensions in the family. Mithya begins to question her mother’s actions and Vandana’s presence. Surya and Jyothi also have frequent arguments.
One day, Surya and Jyothi take their sick daughter Anu to the hospital, and Mithya is given the responsibility of looking after Vandana. Mithya takes Vandana to a nearby stream for bathing. There, Vandana unexpectedly drowns. This tragedy deeply shocks Mithya, and he is filled with remorse.
This series of events marks a turning point in Mitya’s life. At the end of the story, the way he plays with Kishan shows a change in his behavior.
