Luke Purdue, a rare art collector, is also known as the ‘Hand of Mercy’. While trying to escape by stealing an extremely expensive painting, he is pursued by a man named Kazem. Kazem claims that the painting belongs to his boss. Luke tries to escape by taking a bus, but Kazem and his friends chase him. Luke comes to England to visit his sister Charlotte, who works as a museum curator. Charlotte suspects that Luke is in trouble.
After their father’s death ten years ago, Charlotte took up foster care. However, Luke is eager to further investigate the mystery of his father’s ‘Fountain of Youth’. Luke believes that the story of the ‘Fountain of Youth’, which grants immortality, is true. He says the story has been around for thousands of years in many cultures. In the 1600s, six artists came to an agreement to reveal the location of the Fountain, each hiding a clue in their paintings.
Luke obtains six paintings for this purpose: Caravaggio’s ‘The Taking of Christ’, Rubens’ ‘The Descent From the Cross’, Wildens’ ‘Christ and Disciples On the Road to Emmaus’, Velázquez’s ‘Christ Crucified’, El Greco’s ‘Christ Carrying the Cross’ and Rembrandt’s ‘Head of Christ’. The El Greco painting was stolen from the Gardner Museum in Boston in 1990, and Charlotte says it has been missing since. However, Luke reveals that he found it in Thailand. He says the Rembrandt painting is a fake because there are no markings on the back.
Luke and Charlotte are contacted by Owen Carver, a businessman who claims to be dying of liver cancer. He believes that the Fountain can cure him. With Owen’s help, they find a ‘Wicked Bible’. This Bible contains a unique error: the word “not” has been removed from the commandment “Thou shalt not commit adultery”. They find a code in this Bible consisting of 7 musical notes.
Thomas, Charlotte’s son, deciphers this code. The music is an old song called “Water in the Desert”, which honors the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. By using clues from the paintings and mapping the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World on a map, they are able to uncover the location of the ‘Fountain’, namely the Pyramids of Giza.
They enter the pyramids, and are pursued by an Interpol team led by Dr. Jamal Abbas. Kazem also arrives to retrieve the paintings for his boss. In order to reach the Fountain, one must die as an “alms”, otherwise it is revealed that the Fountain will take the lives of their loved ones. However, if a person values themselves more, they can directly gain unlimited power.
The Fountain tests Luke, who refuses to drink from it. However, Owen Carver drinks from the Fountain, and his wounds begin to heal. But he is dangerously powerful, and his healing affects the lives of his loved ones. Charlotte stops this situation, using a key to exit the Fountain. Eventually, Luke and Charlotte leave safely with Thomas, and Abbas promises not to hunt them again.
