“Fear Street” revolves around a series of mysterious events that occur in the town of Shadyside. The town is known to be “cursed”, with legends saying that its residents are “turned into murderers or undead”. The main character, Lori Granger, is considered the “unlucky one” of Shadyside due to rumors that her mother stabbed her father to death.
The story begins with her preparing for her school’s prom. Lori aspires to be the prom queen, and hopes that this will change her life. However, Tiffany Falconer, a popular student, constantly bullies Lori and her friends. Tiffany, Lori, Christy Renault, Linda, and Debbie are among the students competing for the prom queen title.
In the story, Tiffany’s “Wolfpack” members Linda and Melissa go missing. Meanwhile, Christy Renault also fails to show up for prom, and rumors spread about her as well. Lori’s best friend, Megan Rogers, warns Lori about mysterious events and disappearances. Megan says she saw someone wearing a “deviant mask” in the hallway. Several other students, including Judd and Stoker, also go missing.
During the prom, a number of terrifying events occur. D.J. The situation becomes more chaotic when DJ Freddie plays songs against the orders of the boss Wayland, and Tiffany’s friends go missing. Lori and Tyler begin a relationship, which Megan becomes jealous of.
Eventually, violence erupts at the prom. Tiffany’s father, Dan Falconer, becomes enraged and violent after learning that Lori Granger will be crowned prom queen. He helps his daughter Tiffany commit the “murder”. Dan says that “no one remembers the details, only the winner remembers”. Megan, Tyler, and the other students try to escape the prom.
Eventually, Tiffany’s mother, Nancy Falconer, and Laurie come to blows. Nancy says, “The Grangers are always taking what’s rightfully ours.” Nancy reveals that she killed her husband, Dan, and that “his face was the last thing he saw.” The story ends with the old curse and violence continuing in Shadyside. Laurie asserts her identity, declaring herself “Lori fucking Granger.”
