The Struggle of the Future
The world was in turmoil. Cyberattacks were launched, power systems were down, and the country was plunged into darkness. Food production had fallen by 60% and food imports by 90%. The defeated president refused to step down and surrounded the White House with troops. Congress was dissolved, and the states were seceding from the Union.
In a mysterious event, 3 billion of the world’s population, including all children, disappeared. The global economy collapsed, and the assassination of the president sparked a civil war. In the midst of this chaos, the new Prime Minister of the United Nations, Oren Caesar, came to power, and he established the “New Global Government” (NG), creating a global peace treaty that included non-NATO countries.
The NG government banned all religious texts that were not approved by the government, which were considered a threat to global security. Resistance groups formed against this new regime, and in the end, only a group called “The Remnant” remained, led by a former army colonel named Ruth Martin. They were believed to possess the final part of a dangerous document against the NG government. The NG government’s military forces, led by General Barnes and Marcus, attempted to destroy the Remnant.
The Remnant camp consisted of a variety of individuals. Jacob, a former NG soldier who had refused orders to kill an elderly woman and fled; Mason, a pastor at a large church before disappearing; Reuben, an elderly man who had once been a financial expert; Ann, a former senator; and Lisa, a young woman who was in danger because of her brother (Aaron), who was serving in the NG army. Among them were faith, hope, doubt, and betrayal.
The Remnant were forced to flee from camp to camp due to constant NG attacks. Many people, including Lonnie and Angela, lost their lives in the fighting. Eventually, a betrayal led to their camp being surrounded by NG forces. Colonel Ruth, Mason, and Anne were captured. But before she died, Lonnie had given Jacob the precious fragment of the document. Eventually, Jacob escaped, and Ruth, although still in captivity, said that their destination was the hopeful “Bay Camp.” Even in a dark world, there was still a spark of hope for freedom and a better future.
