The Convict: The Struggle for Correction
After 27 years in prison for the rape and murder of a young girl, Jack Harris finally returns to society as a free man. He is acquitted and released after evidence is proven to have been tampered with. But returning to his hometown proves more difficult than he thought. As he struggles to adapt to the changed world after years in prison, he is surrounded by suspicion and hostility from the villagers. Even his own mother rejects him.
Jack wants to prove his innocence and live a normal life. To do this, he seeks the help of Lucy, the babysitter of the victim (Trina). On the morning of Trina’s murder, Jack suspects that he saw someone leaving the crime scene and that it could be Lucy’s father. Meanwhile, Jack is kidnapped and tried to kill him, but the kidnapper eventually releases him.
Shortly after Jack is released, another girl named Isabella Chen is murdered in the same area in a similar manner to Trina. Suspicion once again falls on Jack. Jack and Lucy begin to look for evidence against Lucy’s father (Bill). They find a bloodstain on Bill’s shoe and a cigar cutter. Lucy’s parents learn of this and threaten them. They spread false accusations against Jack (child pornography, Satanism).
A DNA test confirms that the blood on the shoe is Isabella’s. They show this evidence to Officer Ethan. However, the sheriff, when he examines Bill’s shoes, says that they are clean and that there is eyewitness testimony that Jack was seen with Isabella.
Jack remembers Trina’s case file and a metal tool in Lucy’s garage. He suspects that the real killer is Lucy’s uncle, Dennis. Dennis has kidnapped Ethan’s daughter, Layla. They eventually find Dennis in a garbage dump. There, they find a torture device that Dennis had, designed to fit a child, and he is revealed to be the real culprit. Bill shoots Dennis.
But even then, Isabella’s father (Jace) and a group of villagers take Jack to be killed. At the last moment, Lucy and the sheriff arrive and reveal the truth, saving Jack. Jack recovers in the hospital, and Jace apologizes to him. Although everything seems to be going well, the story ends with the news that another girl has been murdered in the same cruel way.
