The Banana Killer’s Revenge
The case of Kumar, an insurance agent who was poisoned to death with a banana in the late 1990s, was full of unexpected events. The day after his death, his wife hanged herself. Their son was barely 8 years old at the time. The trauma left him with a memory impairment, and the boy spent 25 years preparing for his revenge. Now known as the “Banana Killer”, his story of revenge will be remembered for centuries.
Kerala, after the murders of Ripper Chandran, was gripped by a wave of horrific serial killings that shook the conscience of humanity. Two people were murdered within two weeks, and in both cases, bananas were stuffed in the victims’ mouths and deep slash wounds were common. The events had left the public in a state of panic, and news reports were circulating about the activities of a serial killer. Some saw these actions as a strong protest against the government, and even evening prayers were changed to the afternoon for safety reasons. Four more people had lost their lives due to fear of the serial killer, while the killer had killed only two.
Ajay Ramachandran, one of the department’s best investigators, was assigned to investigate these serial murders. Ajay was a notorious police officer who feared no one and had even attacked journalists. He consulted the city’s leading psychologist to understand the killer’s mindset. During the investigation, a young man named Luke was arrested on suspicion of posting a video saying, “No one is born a serial killer, society makes them that way.” There was evidence that he bought a kilo of “number one” bananas on each day of the murders. However, it was later revealed that Luke was not intelligent enough to be a serial killer and that his activities were purely for fun.
Another aspect of the story was Aravindan, a young man who performed religious rituals for his father after 20 years of his disappearance. He was convinced that his father would return.
It was later revealed that the “banana killer” was none other than Kumar’s son Srikumar. He was carrying out a revenge plot related to a rat extermination incident that occurred in a house where five insurance agents, including Kumar, lived. One weekend when Kumar was away from home, his colleagues had placed bananas laced with rat poison everywhere in the house to control the rats. Kumar, who had come home hungry on Monday morning, had died after eating a banana on the table along with the pittu he had brought from home. Sreekumar was seeking revenge on the four colleagues he believed were responsible for his father’s death.
Finally, in one incident, he died after a young woman named Jessie pepper-sprayed an older man who had tried to sexually assault her. This incident, intertwined with the activities of the serial killer, added further complexity to the story. However, Sreekumar, aka the “Banana Killer”, continued his revenge, and his actions affected the lives of many.
