The Twits (2025) Sinhala Subtitles
“The Twits” is a 2025 computer-animated dark comedy film released by Netflix. It is based on the rather strange and disgusting storybook of the same name by world-famous children’s author Roald Dahl. As you can see in the screenshot provided, the film revolves around Mr. and Mrs. Twits, who are described as “the meanest, smelliest, meanest people in the world.”
Storyline: The Twits
The main villains of the story are the Twits (voiced by Johnny Vegas and Margo Martindale). They are two people who hate each other, live in a dirty, windowless, dilapidated house. Their only joy in life is playing cruel, disgusting pranks on each other.
Mr. Twitt’s beard is a key element. Because he never washes it, it is covered in weeks of old food scraps (eggs, cheese, fish bones). Mrs. Twitt is no exception. She once puts worms in Mr. Twitt’s spaghetti and feeds it to him. In retaliation, Mr. Twitt puts a frog in her bed to scare her. Another of their cruel acts is to smear “hug-tight glue” on trees, catch innocent birds, and make “bird pies” to eat.
New characters and conflict
Expanding on the original book’s story, the film introduces two orphans named “Lottie and Bertie” (voiced by Emilia Clarke). The two escape from a cruel orphanage and are looking for a family of their own. As fate would have it, they end up in the town where the Twits live.
The town has become a dark, oppressive place due to the Twits’ influence. The orphans’ goal is to restore happiness to the town. They encounter a family of talking monkeys called “Muggle-Wumps” who are prisoners in the Twits’ home. The Twits force the monkeys to stand upside down all day long in order to train for a circus act.
Climax: Upside Down
With the help of the Muggle-Wumps and a magical bird called “Roly-Poly”, the orphans plan to teach the Twits a lesson. While the Tweets are away, they all join forces and use their own “super glue” to glue all of the Tweets’ furniture (chairs, tables, beds) to the ceiling of the house.
When the Tweets return home, they find that all of their belongings are upside down. Their stupid minds realize that it is not their belongings that have been turned upside down, but themselves. To fix this, they both stand upside down.
Ending and criticism
The ending of the story is typical of Roald Dahl’s writing style. Because they stand upside down for so long, they contract a strange disease called “the dread shrinks”. They gradually shrink, shrink, and finally disappear completely. The town is liberated, and the orphans and the Muggle-wamp monkey family reunite to create a new, happy family.
The low IMDb rating of 4.8/10, as shown in the image you provided, shows that this film has been a mixed bag with both critics and audiences. This is because it tries to maintain the intense “dark” and “disgusting” nature (Dark Comedy, Farce, Slapstick) of Roald Dahl’s original work. Some see it as a brave attempt, while others feel that it is more of an adult-oriented, slightly unpleasant experience than a typical family animated film.
